JOHOR BARU, MALAYSIA - They cheer, they dance and they are as tough as nails. They have also created history by becoming the first all-male winners of Cheer 2010 Southern region. Team Ignite from SMK Bandar Baru Uda brought the roof down at Expo@Danga City Mall yesterday, wowing the judges and audience with their fantastic routine. Jubilant: Team Ignite members celebrating their triumph at the regional finals in Johor Baru Saturday. "We can't believe that we're the Cheer 2010 Southern winners! We've proven that not only girls can excel at cheerleading," said team captain Mohd Faiz Lukman Azizan, 16. All the hard work and dedication put into the routine paid off when the boys beat tough competition from three other teams. Ignite took home a RM2,000 cash prize, a Silkygirl hamper worth RM400, a Marigold HL Milk hamper and Sugus assorted products. One of their competitors was their sister team, Evogue, which clinched the second runners-up and Best Dressed awards. They won a RM1,000 cash prize, apart from a Silkygirl hamper worth RM200, a Marigold HL Milk hamper and Sugus assorted products for both categories. Taking home the second prize was last year's Southern champion team Vixen from SMK (P) Sultan Ismail. They won a RM1,500 cash prize, a Silkygirl hamper worth RM300, a Marigold HL Milk hamper and Sugus assorted products. The girls seemed disappointed with the loss of their title, but were determined to beat the boys at the Cheer 2010 final. The top three teams will make their way to the Klang Valley to compete at the Cheer 2010 final with teams from the northern and central regions. Cheer 2010 will be held on July 10 and 11 at the Putra Indoor Stadium, Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex in Kuala Lumpur. Cheer 2010 is organised by R.AGE and is presented by Silkygirl.
